The story of Dill's Fire & Safety began in 1965 when Ernie Dill founded Mountaineer Supply while working in the security department for Kaiser Aluminum in Ravenswood, WV. The company originally focused on the sale and service of fire extinguishers. Ernie later extended his efforts to include the sale of restaurant fire suppression systems. In 1967 Ernie and several other community leaders founded the Silverton VFD. He was elected as the department's first Chief and filled that role for the first few years after inception. It was during his time as Fire Chief that Ernie decided to direct his business sights toward helping meet the needs of community fire departments. Some of the companies that Mountaineer Supply represented during its early years were FMC Fire Apparatus, MSA, Akron Brass, and Hale Fire Pump Company. After eight years of steady growth Mountaineer Supply became a distributor for a revolutionary rescue tool…"The Jaws of Life". In 1973 the very first tools were sold to Silverton, Marmet, and Martinsburg, WV fire departments. Ernie's son, Steven, joined the company full time in 1974 and currently serves as the company's President. As the company increased its product line the territory expanded to include the entire state of West Virginia, Southeast Ohio, Kentucky, Western Pennsylvania, and Central Pennsylvania. The name was changed to Dill's Fire & Safety Equipment Company and currently has a team of full-time and part-time sales and service professionals ready to meet the needs of the most demanding fire departments. From the beginning this company has focused on serving the needs of its customers. There are many companies who claim to have exceptional service. Very few follow through like Dill's Fire & Safety.
